The Burr Conspiracy
by Thomas Abernethy
Printed in the United States of America in 1954
The Burr Conspiracy deals with a mostly forgotten
chapter in American history, the early days of intrigue, suspicion, and
double dealing. Abernethy tells the story of how Aaron Burr, after
narrowly losing the presidential election for the position of 3rd
president of the United States to Thomas Jefferson in a Congressional
tie breaker, set out to get the western lands of the Mississippi
Territory to secede and form a new confederacy with Burr possibly as
king. Burr was able to enlist the aid of an American General in his
efforts which involved a wide variety of schemes, some more plausible
than others.
