Ambassador Dodd's Diary 1933-1938
Edited by William and Martha Dodd with introduction by
Charles Beard
Published 1941 in the United States of America - First
Edition
The choice of Mr. Dodd as the American Ambassador to
Germany in 1933 was one of critical importance for the Roosevelt
administration and speaks volumes about the nature of Roosevelt himself
and the importance of the post. Ambassador Dodd still stands out today
as one of America's finest scholars and his work in Germany during his
ambassadorship remains critical in understanding the development of
Nazism and fascism and the role that was played by certain Americans in
that development. Here I include the Introduction and the first page of
the diary.
